With probably one of the best shopping locations in Rome at its doorstep, this upscale pensione is nearly hidden with just a discrete entrance on the well heeled Via dei Condotti. Look for it right next to the famed Caffe Greco. A unassuming door leading to a corridor, then a set of steps, yes that is the one. This homey place might seem at first to be a bit out of place on such a fashionable street but this is a hidden gem.
Rooms, while varied, are quite stylish. Some are more simple, some have painted ceilings, and some have very fashionable decor. All are comfortable, well appointed rooms with modern bathrooms, jacuzzi bathtubs and luxurious Etro bath products. The feel of the property is that of a house more then a full on hotel, yet these are very much upscale accommodations. The property is small and eclectic and that is very much its appeal.
There is no restaurant here but there is a wonderful roof top garden and terrace open seasonally where breakfast is served every morning. In the afternoons the hotel has an aperitivo hour as well and drinks can be taken much of the day and evening. When colder there is still the indoor sitting room just off the terrace.
The concierge service is friendly and helpful, though much more limited then other hotels I have stayed at of the same caliber. They could not for example book tickets to certain places, or book a train. Nor could anything such as car services be added to the hotel bill but rather had to be paid in cash. That means pick up service from the airport requires you to have cash in hand to pay for the car and driver upon arrival. Their services were a bit more basic however the staff were more then willing to help where they could and were quite knowledgeable. They offered wonderful restaurant recommendations, (rare these days as so many hotels have predictable offerings), and knew the city well.
Again, location is key here. Stepping out you are in front of the Spanish Steps, on one of Rome’s best shopping streets and near a variety of choice restaurants and cafes. The best of Rome is literally at your feet. And should you wish to decorate those feet, Prada is 2 doors down…
