The last week of May holds the most beloved event of the calendar and kicks off the Summer Season for fashionable Londoners: The RHS Chelsea Flower Show. For one week the well to do neighbourhood in SW3 buzzes with the prettiest show on earth showcasing the best and most prestigious flowers, gardens and gardeners.
Chelsea in Bloom The whole Royal Borough gets involved with the Flower Show, but especially the businesses along Kings Road and Sloane Square. Shops will dress up with flowers and do floral displays of their own. It makes for a glamorous and festive feel to the neighbourhood streets with blooms and colour everywhere.
RHS Chelsea Flower Show The main event takes place at the Royal Hospital behind Sloane Square. It begins down the main avenue filled with all kinds of products any gardener may need. Proceed right to the major show gardens, and the grand marquee under which the best examples of every flower imaginable can be found. Astonishing displays of tumbling blossoms, fragrant roses and exotic plant can be found here. Don’t forget to check the smaller gardens which are clever and creative examples on how much can be done with just a small patch of earth. They do inspire.
What to expect this year at RHS Chelsea 2016 Besides all the main events, this year highlights a moving tribute to Britain’s soldiers done by the Poppy Project. A heartfelt memorial of fields of poppies to those who fought in the war. And in recognition of HM the Queen’s 90th birthday a tunnel of roses and sculpture to honour the occasion.
If you go to Chelsea Tickets can be bought online and there are different ways you can attend. There are all day tickets which are the most expensive, half day tickets which allow for afternoon entrance and evening tickets as the last entrance of the day. There are several food trucks to purchase snacks and refreshments, and of course this is the perfect venue for pitchers of Pimms and flowing champagne.
