The Grand Hotel Vesuvio, like Naples itself is friendly and welcoming. From the minute you walk into this elegant period establishment there is a likeability that puts one immediately at ease. There is a sense of quiet nobility about the style, one almost feels like they are on the Grand Tour to step through the front doors.
Overlooking the Castel dell’Ovo and the Bay of Naples yet centrally located to many sites in the city, the Grand Hotel Vesuvio is an ideal spot. Many rooms have marvelous views of the sea and furnishings while a bit dated are ultra comfortable in warm tones with parquet floors, and the bathrooms are grand. Beds are extremely comfortable and after a long day exploring the vibrant city are a joy to sink into. And I liked the innovative touch of the sleep kit on the pillow for the turn down service.
On the premises, the hotel has a fashionable restaurant on the top floor, high over the bay with amazing views and serving modern Italian cuisine. While a good morning breakfast is served buffet style in a sunny grand room on the first floor. The refined bar welcomes you off the lobby and the lobby itself with antique wood, grand lighting fixtures and black and white floors, has many comfortable public spaces to sit, chat, or read the newspaper. And to compliment the polished surroundings is excellent service. A reception group eager to impart information on the city and to meet any and all requests with a pleasant demeanor. A stay at the Grand Hotel Vesuvio is a delight.
Check-in: Very helpful starting with the porter service outside, who not only took the bags but directed me to the desk. Pleasant greetings, and after taking my payment details, a member from the Front Desk took me up to my room while giving me details of the hotel. Bags were delivered straight away and there was no waiting for anything. I was out the door to explore the city in no time.
Rooms: Parquet wood flooring and warm earth tones gave way to a spectacular views over the Bay of Naples and the Castel dell’Ovo. Bathroom was large with both jacuzzi bathtub and separate shower. The room decor was a bit dated but charming. I stayed in a small suite with sitting room and had 2 flat screen TVs, one in the sitting area and one in the bedroom.
Bed: Soooooo comfortable!
Staff and Housekeeping: Room was always perfectly made up and I was never disturbed. The desk staff are eager for you to get to know Naples.
Location: Great area to be in with promenade along the water and within walking distance to many sights.
